WeTransfer vs Yoink: Transfer Landing Pages vs Direct File Links

WeTransfer and Yoink solve different problems: WeTransfer delivers a bundled transfer through a recipient-facing landing page, while Yoink gives you one direct URL per file with no landing page at all.

How the recipient experiences each

With WeTransfer, the recipient opens a transfer landing page and can download files individually or all at once, and no recipient account is required to download, per WeTransfer's download help. That page is the handoff: it frames the bundle as a single delivery.

With Yoink, each uploaded file gets its own files.yoink.zip URL, and that URL points straight at the file. The browser displays or downloads it depending on the file type and headers. There is no transfer page, no bundle view, and no per-recipient step.

Expiry and control

WeTransfer gives senders expiry controls. You can set or modify a transfer's expiry date per WeTransfer's expiry help, and how long transfers stay available depends on the plan, per WeTransfer's availability help. One caveat from that documentation: if you change the expiry later, the original email may still show an outdated date, so tell your recipient about the change yourself.

Yoink offers no expiry controls and no guaranteed retention. A link may keep working, but you should not treat that as a promise, and there is no self-service remote deletion. Also note that expiry of hosting can never recall copies a recipient already downloaded, on either service.

Which one fits

Choose WeTransfer when you want a managed handoff: a bundle of files presented together, a deadline the recipient can see, and a sender who expects the transfer to end on a date.

Choose Yoink when you want a direct file link for non-sensitive sharing or embedding: one URL per file, no account required to upload, no recipient permissions to configure. It works more like hotlinkable hosting than a delivery workflow.

For other needs, look at tools built for them: a restricted collaborative drive suits evolving documents shared with named people, and controlled durable storage suits archival copies and production assets. Those needs call for access controls and retention guarantees, so pick the service accordingly.
